LAO

A Local Access Organization (LAO) works primarily or exclusively to conserve and keep climbing areas open while promoting responsible climbing. As LAOs are the best line of defense when access issues appear, APA encourages and supports local climbers to form one.

Access

There are access issues throughout the Americas: restrictions and regulations on public land, private landowners with liability concerns, development construction, wildlife restrictions, inappropriate users’ behavior leading to closures, etc.

APA strives at promoting access as well as conservation of mountain areas. In order to have access to mountain areas, climbers should behave ethically and promote conservation.
